Aubrey Reese (183-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Murray St.) is a 31 year old 183 cm guard from Auburn, Alabama. He spoke to Eurobasket about the current season with the Deutsche Bank Skyliners in the BEKO BBL.

Aubrey, this is your first season in Germany in the BBL. How does the German league compare with other leagues that you have seen?

The BBL is one of the most competitive leagues I have seen where all teams can compete. In many of the other leagues only the top 3 teams were competitive. The team that is playing best at the end of the season will have the best chances to win.

Was one of the reasons why you came to the Deutsche Bank Skyliners because Murat Didin was the coach?

I knew him before I came here. But I actually saw the Frankfurt job as an attractive opportunity for me. But I have to say knowing that Murat Didin was the coach made my decision a lot easier for me.

You knew Murat Didin from Turkey. Is there some thing about him that is interesting that not the normal person knows about him?

Murat Didin really knows basketball and does not only pay attention to his own team, but also pays attention to teams in other countries. He likes to soak up basketball from other good teams. He likes watching the Spanish league with teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid and he likes to take things so he can play a similar style with his team.

What kind of relationship do you have with captain Pascal Roller? How difficult is it for you to take away playing time from a legend and guy that is your age?

Me and captain have a good relationship. We are still trying to find each other. Sometimes we play together at the same time on the court and we are still trying to figure each other out. I dont see myself at taking anything away from him, but I am a part of the team and we both work together to help the team win.

A few months ago, nobody really saw The Deutsche Bank Skyliners as a playoff team, but now there seems to be a hope that this goal can be made. What does the team still need to improve to be with the top teams?

We have to get our chemistry together. The team the last two years played together, but many left and new guys came in that have never played in the BBL. We just have to keep working and if we can learn to play well on a consistent level, then we could be one of the top teams.

You are a great ballhandler, scorer and penetrator into the zone. How difficult is it practicing each day against Defense pest Quantez Robertson?

For me it is good to practice each day against Tez. Practicing against him gets me into game mode and he makes me work hard in practice and it is just a lot easier for me to get into the flow of a game.

What do you remember from your season in the USBL in 2001?

My nicest memory was playing that year and getting player of the year.

You have been playing in Europe since 2001. Why didnt you ever play in the States after that?

I didnt really get that opportunity in the States that I wanted. I just came to Europe got in the flow and stayed. I couldnt play in the NBA and I didnt want to deal with the minor leagues in the States.

You played four years in Turkey. What kind of experience was that for you?

The people there were pretty cool. It was a little different than other places. Maybe it had something to do with the culture and Muslim religion, but I met many people there and I understood the people.

You always scored in Europe and never dished out less than four assists. Why didnt you reach the NBA?

I never really got a lot of interest from the NBA. I wasnt to big and was more a scoring point guard. Maybe if I had changed my style earlier to more of a traditional point guard, then I could of gotten some other looks. But at this stage in my career, I dont have to score, but am looking at other ways to help my team.

How do you like my nickname for you "Don't shot the ball to heaven"? I say this because your shot goes straight up and seems like it will never come down.

Thats funny. I have no problem with it.

How is the bet player that you played against that might be in the NBA?

Mike Bibby

What was the last DVD that you saw?

The last DVD was Last house on the left. It is a scary movie.

Thanks Aubrey for the chat. Good luck this season!

Thanks Miles
